Daniel 9:3-4 says... So I turned to the Lord God and pleaded with him in prayer and fasting. I wore rough sackcloth and sprinkled myself with ashes. I prayed to the Lord my God and confessed: “O Lord, you are a great and awesome God! You always fulfill your promises of unfailing love to those who love you and keep your commands.”
When my mom passed I gained A LOT of weight due to being depressed and turning to food for comfort. I gained over 20 pounds in 1 month. After seeing myself that size, I just knew I was not going to allow myself to stay that size. So I took my mom‘s advice she left me with and started fasting and praying.
When I first started fasting I would fast for 20 hours a day and allow myself to have a four hour window where I could eat. I would only eat salads or turkey wraps and only drink water. As I got comfortable with fasting, I asked God to help me through a 3-day fast. And of course, ask and it shall be given to you. God helped me through a 3-day fast where I only would drink water or sparkling waters.
Fasting and praying allowed me to not only loose weight but get closer to God. My time away from food, allowed me to seek God for help, wisdom, and understanding. Fasting and praying gave me an open mind to what God was trying to tell me. Sometimes we find ourselves so busy that we do not take enough time out of our day to spend quality time with God. It took me fasting for 72 hours and getting on my knees praying for hours for Him to take control over my life.
During my fasting I fully submitted myself to God and told Him to take full control over my life and my actions. I asked God to direct my path in everything that I do. I wanted my walk with God to be consistent and true.
I have lost 22 pounds in 2 months since I started fasting and praying. I also have grown a loyal relationship with God where I come to Him each and every day asking Him to guide and direct my path. One thing I had to learn in my weight loss journey was that I couldn’t do it without putting God first. Which is something you should do in any and everything that you do. And I promise you God will direct your path all you have to do is TRUST HIM. - Proverbs 3:5-6
